Veteran's Day

While you are enjoying your three-day weekend, take a few minutes to think about why you get this extra day of vacation. Check out Operation Gratitude and their project Thanking Veterans for Their Service. Donate your time, goods, or money! Click here to learn more about opportunities to get involved. It's as simple as writing a letter to a veteran or soldier to let them know they are appreciated and we haven't forgotten them!

Election Day, 2012

Are you parents voting? Give them that extra push to get to the polls! Talk about your opinions, their opinions, and go with them to vote. Before you do, take a minute to try to separate fact from fiction. What do you believe? What do you believe in? Fact Check is a trustworthy nonpartisan website. Pass it on.

Elections just aren't about who wins the presidential race. What happens in Congress is just as important. Take a look here at a visual history of the ideological makeup of the US Congress.

Who doesn't love the History Channel? Put your hand down; that was rhetorical. Now go read this article about how Halloween is celebrated around the world. Did you know it originated in Ireland? That one wasn't rhetorical.
Contest: How many popular holidays came from Ireland. Special prize to the first five students to track me down and give me an answer. Extra prizes if you come up with any I didn't think of!
Remember to come by and check out your favorite scary books in time to have them for Halloween. We've got everything from the frightening Stephen King to R.L. Stine. Don't forget all time favorite Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Are you looking for a creative way to present information? Use Glogster Edu to incorporate text, graphics, and videos. Publish your work online, or print out an informational poster that is sure to impress.
